What is Washi＋？

Washi＋ was established in 2019 by Ayumi Hamada to sustainably develop and implement the projects she had been leading since 2014. Under the guiding question, “Can performing arts help preserve traditional crafts that are at risk of disappearing?”, Washi＋ develops diverse artistic projects that connect traditional Japanese crafts with contemporary artistic practices. Its unique artist residency programs have welcomed artists and participants from across North America and Europe, creating opportunities for cultural exchange, hands-on learning, and creative collaboration in Kochi, Japan.
